Thing #3

As a History and Geography Teacher I can see many uses of a blog.  One thing that would interest me with a blog is to make "blog pals" with students and teachers in other countries and allow them to assist with descriptions of their country's culture, geography, and history from their own perspective.  For example, if you ask a young American about the American Revolution and a young British student their likely will be two very different views on the topic.  It also would be nice for students to be able to get a personal answers to questions they have concerning the topics they think are interesting.  I think it would be a great way to help students link history and geography from the past with the present.

  1. Great Ideas! Definitely will learn a lot from you as I prepare to teach History. Look forward to picking your brain on good techniques to prep for the Praxis,... Yikes! I'm a lot nervous about that. Thanks. See you in class! -clint

    1. :) I am happy to let you know how the Praxis goes. I am nervous about it myself. The only really helpful advice I can give at the moment is to check with the library on campus to see if they have a World History textbook you can study from (I am using one from my middle school). :)

  2. I really like the idea of blog pals. This would be a great extension of the ancient practice of pen pals back in the day. The idea of sharing different viewpoints, defined by demographic, culture and geography is very interesting.

    1. Jamie you are on top of it. I had not thought of a blog like pen pals but I think that may help me get through this blogging experience. :)

  3. It is so cool to read the blog of someone who is already teaching. As the previous comments state already, you have great ideas and we (the new guys who want to teach) will learn a lot from you. No pressure.

    1. Thanks Scott! No pressure I understand lol (sarcastic sigh)... I am new to teaching myself but I am happy to help anyone who needs to help along the way to teaching even as we transition into being educators. I am currently learning to my lesson plans this week :)

  4. I love your "blog pals" idea. I think that's a great way to connect students from all over the world to gain new perspectives on various cultures and historical events. In middle school, I had a pen pal in Japan and it was a fun experience to connect with someone from another culture and read her letters describing her interests and way of life.
